Content Consumption

How has your consumption of content changed over the past 5 years?

Not much at all actually. Most all the content I've read in the last seven or so years has been online or in some type of digital format. I've had the Internet for most my life however and always preferred using it for research to going to a library. I suppose the most significant change came with tablets which allowed me to read digital content more comfortably while lounging.

Do you still read paper books, magazines or newspapers? If so, which and why?  If not, why not?

I do on occasion. I can still appreciate the feel of an actual book but still prefer the greater possibilities of electronic devices like the kindle or tablets. Magazines I haven't touched in a long time besides in waiting rooms, and same goes for the newspaper. I think it's just because I can get so much more content online as well as search it easily.

When you read online content, is it on a laptop, tablet or on your phone?  Why?

Usually it's on my desktop. Then followed by a tablet. I do not have a laptop or a smart phone. The reason I prefer desktop is because I'm usually multitasking, reading and working on something at the same time. Also I have multiple monitors which makes researching and writing papers easier. I enjoy using the tablet to just load up an ebook and lean back somewhere though. It's a nice middle ground between a book and a more powerful desktop computer.

  1. I agree with you in reference to the research that is available to you online. But also to sit down with a good book is so relaxing for me. And like you said it is nothing like the feel of a good book from time to time.

  2. Speaking of the feel of paper-- I still like physically writing in notebooks -- for notes on lectures, books, or clients. I think the act of writing helps me remember things better too -- I often would use that technique when studying in school.

    1. I still like writing notes with pen and paper also. Unfortunately my penmanship leave much to be desired. I think there is software you can train to your writing though and using a tablet to write on it'll change what you write into computer text. That seems like the best of both worlds.

  3. I agree with your feeling on the tablet -- it's a wonderful middle ground.

I also agree, though, that there is something to be said for the feel of a good, quality, bound book -- it just feels, powerful or something -- haha. Holding it in your hand provides some sort of connection that digital (for me) just can't recreate.

Don't get me wrong, though -- digital FTW in terms of convenience, practicality, and value.
