How
would a user on a mobile device use your company's website differently
than a user on a laptop or browser? What tasks might they want to
accomplish?
This organization's site could use some optimization when it comes to mobile devices. Overall though it would pretty much be used the same way, which is part of the issue. On a tablet it works pretty much the same but for things with a smaller screen, such as a phone, it becomes more cumbersome.
Has your company done anything to improve the mobile website experience?
Unfortunately, no. There are plans on doing so however.
How might your company measure the mobile experience on their site? What tools or data should they look at?
Analytical software can be used to measure the type of devices people use to access a website. Combining it with other statistics like return rate and time spent on site you can roughly judge whether or not mobile users are finding a site useable. Other than that surveys and reviews can be conducted and studied to determine what users want or how they feel about a site.
What are your recommendations for how they might entice more mobile traffic and make the mobile user experience better?
Creating a mobile version of the site is probably the best way to encourage mobile traffic. These sites are usually more compact and easier to navigate on small devices like phones. They are typically more simple and omit things like large images or videos. Offering special apps or other mobile software is another way to draw mobile users to your site or offer them the use of services without even having to visit.
From a mobile device, a visitor might want the phone number of address faster than someone on a laptop.... maybe they're in their car on the way or want to call while on the road. While a person at a computer may also want that information, they probably wouldn't be doing something like driving at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThat's true and something I didn't think about. Including a map may be another consideration. Especially if it can somehow incorporate GPS to show directions.
